YouTube launches Spotlight Canada, a channel to showcase Canadian content

YouTube has announced a new channel called, YouTube Spotlight Canada, which will audiences to up-and-coming Canadian talent.

Each month, YouTube will feature new Canadian creators as well as “new Canadian stories, perspectives and personalities.” The first month on YouTube Spotlight Canada is to the theme of Canada itself, with highlights from Canada 150 celebrations, revisiting Canadian history and indigenous music artists.

Canada is the first country to have its own Spotlight channel dedicated solely to local creators,” explained Marie Josée Lamothe, Managing Director, Quebec, Google Canada. “Canadians make up one of the world’s most vibrant communities on YouTube — watchtime in Canada has grown 30% over last year, and our Canadian YouTubers are exploding internationally. We are so proud of their success and want to do more to share it here at home.”

On August 2nd,  YouTube is launching their Creator on the Rise, feature in Canada, which helps identify Canadian creators that are growing rapidly and showcase their videos.

Things are about to get Stranger this October on Netflix Canada.October sees the premiere of the much-anticipated season 2 of Stranger Things but lets take a look at what else is coming this month. Google brings back Glass but for the enterprise

After nearly two years, Google has introduced an updated version of Glass, but this time for the enterprise market.Alphabet’s experimental X division has been testing the new Google Glass as part of a limited program for the past two years but now they’ve opened it up to more businesses.Some example of businesses that are currently using Glass, include GE Aviation with software made by Upskill which will display instructions and helpful information during airplane assembly and maintenance. With the new Google Glass, GE’s mechanics are able to keep working with videos, animation and images staying in their line of sight. This has improved GE’s mechanics’ efficiency by 8-12%.The Glass team has been working with more than 50 companies, including AGCO, DHL, Dignity Health, NSF International, Sutter Health, The Boeing Company and Volkswagen.
