Xbox E3 2017 Briefing: Everything you need to know

Microsoft made a couple of announcements at their E3 2017 briefing, most of them had to do with showing off their newest console, the Xbox One X.

Xbox One X

Xbox One X is the official name for Xbox Project Scorpio. It has a 6 teraflop GPU, 8-core custom CPU, 12GB of GDDR5 RAM at 326GB/sec of memory bandwidth.

Microsoft says it’s the most powerful console and smallest Xbox ever. The Xbox One X is also compatible with all Xbox One accessories and games.

A 4K TV isn’t required to use an Xbox One X, games will still look great on your 1080p TV. It will enhance existing Xbox One games, so they look better on the new console.

The console is capable of 4K gaming at 60fps, so you’ll want a 4K TV to get the most out of the Xbox One X. It will also support HDR10 and can play 4K Blu-Rays.

The Xbox One X will come with a 1TB hard drive (which is 50% faster than the on in the Xbox One S), Xbox Wireless Controller, HDMI cable and power supply.

The console is coming November 7th for $599 CAD ($499 USD) and start rolling out to all Xbox One markets on that day.

Forza Motorsport 7

To show off the capabilities of the Xbox One X, Forza Motorsport 7 is the perfect way to do that. You’ll be able to play the game in native 4K at 60fps on Xbox One X.

Writing about the game doesn’t do it justice, watch the trailer to see how beautiful the game will look. Forza Motorsport 7 launches on October 3rd for Xbox One and Windows 10. There will be three version of the game, Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate.

The Deluxe Edition comes with the full game, The Fate of the Furious Car Pack, the Forza VIP membership and Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 digital-only pre-order bonus content. The Ultimate Edition comes with everything in the Deluxe but also the Car Pass for Forza Motorsport 7 and early access to the game on September 29th and will retail for $99.99 CAD.

Metro: Exodus

Microsoft showed off a new Metro game entitled, Metro: Exodus and while it necessarily won’t be a Xbox exclusive, it will still look beautiful on the Xbox One X.

The game takes place during a nuclear winter in a post-apocalyptic Russia. The game will be coming in 2018.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

It’s official, Assassin’s Creed is heading to ancient Egypt. The game focuses on the first assassins. Some added gameplay elements include the use of Bayek’s eagle which players can control for a bird’s eye view.

The game will launch on October 27th for Xbox One X, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

Microsoft has announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be coming to Xbox One in late 2017.

State of Decay 2

The game was first announced at E3 2016 but Microsoft has announced that the game will be coming in early 2018 (originally scheduled for 2017). It will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10 and a Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Dragon Ball Fighter Z

Dragon Ball Fighter Z is a new 2D fighting game, it will feature three-versus-three fights with characters from across the Dragon Ball franchise.

The game is coming in 2018 for Xbox One and will include Xbox One X enhancements.

Deep Rock Galatic

Deep Rock Galatic is a new space adventure game that is exclusive to Xbox One. You control members of an elite group of mercenary miners who must fight, dig and explore huge cave systems.

The game will support four player cooperative multiplayer and procedurally generated cave systems.

The Darwin Project

The Darwin Project is a new asymmetrical multiplayer survival game that is set in a cold wasteland. The game is described as  “half-science and half live-entertainment,” meaning that e-sports was in mind when creating the game.

The game is exclusive to Xbox One and Windows 10 and will include Mixer interactivity. It will release in 2018.

Code Vein

Code Vein, players will discover a ruined world with a thirst for blood. The game will be coming in 2018.

The Artful Escape

The Artful Escape is a new game that is about a man who uses the power of music to travel a painterly world. It will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10, “when it’s damn ready.”

Tacoma

Tacoma, the next game from Fullbright (the developers behind Gone Home) will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 in August. The game is about the player exploring an abandoned space station and finding out why its crew disappeared.

Sea of Thieves

Microsoft showed off some new gameplay of Rare’s upcoming game, Sea of Thieves. They also announced that the game will be coming in 2018.

The Last Night

Here is what The Last Night is about (according to the game’s publisher, Raw Fury):

The Last Night is what we call post-cyberpunk — it’s not the kind of dystopia the genre is famous for, rather it depicts an alternate direction for society. One where the fight for survival doesn’t mean food and water, but a purpose for living. Human labour and creativity has been rendered obsolete by AI, so people are now defining themselves by what they consume, not what they create.

The game will be coming to Windows 10 and Xbox One in 2018.

Black Desert

Black Desert is a Xbox One exclusive MMO that features next-gen graphics, full action combat and an immense seamless world full of adventure and danger. Travel through the lands in search of treasure and adventure or become one of the top craftsmen in the land. Set up trade routes and breed horses or compete against other guilds in epic siege warfare.

Minecraft

Minecraft is getting a free 4K update with the Super Duper Graphics Pack. Minecraft will also soon support cross-platform play between, console, VR, PC, and mobile.

The Super Duper Graphics Pack for Minecraft will be coming this fall alongside the Xbox One X.

Cuphead

The Steamboat Willy-inspired game, Cuphead finally has a release date. The game will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 on September 29th.

Crackdown 3

Crackdown 3 was first announced back at E3 2014 and now we have a release date. The game will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 on November 7th, alongside the Xbox One X.

The game will take advantage of Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to provide mass scale destruction so everything in the game can be destroyed.

Ashen

Ashen is a new RPG that is exclusive to Xbox One. The game is heavily inspired by Dark Souls. You can expect intense battles, exploration and massive enemies.

A release date for Ashen has not been announced but was originally scheduled for a 2016 release.

Super Lucky’s Tale

Super Lucky’s Tale is a new platform that stars Lucky who originally starred in Lucky’s Tale, a VR game for the Oculus Rift. The new game is about how Lucky is attempting to rescue his sister and the Book of Ages artifact from the evil Jinx

The new game will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 on November 7th.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is the sequel to 2015’s Ori and the Blind Forest. Just like the first game, Will of the Wisps will be visually stunning art and unique gameplay.

A release date wasn’t announced but it will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10.

Original Xbox backward compatibility

Microsoft has announced that backward compatibility for Original Xbox games will be coming to Xbox One later this year.

“Our team of engineers are working hard to bring some of your original favorite Xbox games to Xbox One today,” Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division

Free 4K Game Updates

Microsoft has announced that some Xbox One games such as Gears of War 4, Killer Instinct, Minecraft, Forza Motorsport 3 and Halo Wars 2 will all be getting free updates to enable 4K gaming compatibility on Xbox One X.

There will also be updates for over 30 third-party games such as Final Fantasy 15 and Resident Evil 7.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm

Square Enix announced a new prequel for Life is Strange, entitled, Life is Strange: Before the Storm. The prequel will be three episodes long and focuses on two major characters from Life is Strange and is not being developed Dontnod Entertainment, who are working on a sequel to Life is Strange.

The first episode of Life is Strange: Before the Storm will release on August 31st and will be enhanced for Xbox One X later this year.

You can pre-order the three-episode season of Life is Strange: Before the Storm on the Xbox Store for $24.99 CAD ($16.99 USD), it will come with ‘Backtalk’ – A risk/reward conversation mode that allows Chloe to use her barbed tongue to provoke or get her way.

There is also a Deluxe Edition that is $34.99 CAD  ($24.99 USD) and comes with a bonus episode called Farewell, where you will play one last time as a young Max Caulfield.

Anthem

Bioware showed off gameplay for their next game called Anthem, which was announced at EA Play 2017.

Anthem will release in 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War

Microsoft also showed off some gameplay from Middle Earth: Shadow of War, which has been made with Xbox One X enhancements in mind. The game will be launching on Xbox One, PS4 and Windows 10 on October 10th.

Everything that’s coming to CraveTV in November

CraveTV has a couple of titles coming in November.Starting on Friday, November 3rd, new episodes of The Beaverton will stream on CraveTV after it premieres on The Comedy Network. New episodes from season 2 will continue to air every Friday.The new Showtime comedy series, SMILF, which is about Bridgette Bird (Frankie Shaw), “a young, single mom from South Boston whose desires for relationships, sex, and a career collide with the realities of working-class single motherhood.” SMILF will air on Sundays starting November 5th at 10pm ET and run for eight episodes.
