macOS High Sierra public beta is now available

Apple has announced that the public beta of their upcoming macOS High Sierra is now available.

For those interested, users can sign up for the beta at beta.apple.com and then you’ll be prompted to login via your Apple ID. Just like all beta software, it should be installed at your own risk, since the OS is still in development.

Apple recommends you back up your Mac before installing and to use a secondary Mac if possible. There will also be updates to the public beta before the final release this fall.

macOS High Sierra was first introduced at WWDC 2017 and it brings new core technologies to make your Mac more powerful, like the addition of the new Apple File System. High Sierra also supports the HVEC video codec, videos can then be compressed up to 40 percent more than the H.264 codec and files won’t take up as much space.

Photos will also get some new editing tools and ways to organize your pictures and videos. High Sierra also brings app refinements like Top Hits in Mail, Autoplay Blocking and Intelligent Tracking Prevention in Safari.

The new update also brings new WebKit technologies for Safari and Metal 2 for next-gen gaming, machine learning and virtual reality content creation on Mac.

macOS High Sierra will be available to all Mac users as a free update this fall. You can find out more about the update here.
