After more than 3 years since the last Mac Pro update, Apple has announced that they will be giving their top of the line Mac, a much-needed performance bump.
Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller announced this to a small group of reporters in Cupertino, and TechCrunch was in attendance.
Starting today in the US, the 6-core Intel Xeon with dual AMD FirePro D500 graphics is now $2,999 USD (about $4,030 USD) and Apple is adding a model with a 8-core Intel Xeon processor and dual FirePro D700 graphics for $3,999 USD (about $5,373 CAD). The refreshed Mac Pro will be coming to Canada and Canadian availability and official pricing will be available soon.
Schiller also said, “if we’ve had a pause in upgrades and updates on that, we’re sorry for that — what happened with the Mac Pro, and we’re going to come out with something great to replace it. And that’s our intention.”
He also noted that desktop Macs only make up about 20% of the number of Mac computers that they shipped in 2016.
Apple also said that we’ll see improved iMacs later this year and the current Mac Pro design will stay until the end of this year. A redesigned Mac Pro, that is far more modular, will release sometime next year.
