Forty years ago this month, George Lucas founded Industrial Light & Magic (ILM for short). Lucas founded the company so then he could create the special effects for his “little space opera thing” then known as The Star Wars.
ILM started out in a tiny warehouse in Van Nuys, California. At the time, there was only a small number of young college students, artists and engineers.
Today, ILM has thousands of employees and has contributed to over 300 films.
To help celebrate their 40th anniversary, ILM has posted a sizzle reel of all kinds of visual effects shots from movies such as: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Terminator 2, Back to the Future and lost more.
Here is to ILM to creating 40 more years of Creating the impossible.
