CES 2015 – January 5th 2015: Everything you need to know

There were a lot of major announcements made today, even though the actual show starts January 6th. Today was filled with press conference upon press conference.



LG

LG announced their new LG G Flex 2. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen. It is being powered by a octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor (the first smartphone with this CPU). You will also have 2GB or 3GB of RAM (depends on your region).


In terms of storage, either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to 2TB (And yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, it actually supports a 2TB microSD card, even though none exist, yet). You can take great photos with the 13-megapixel rear-facing camera.


LG also announced new Ultra HD Curved TVs, including one that flexes at the touch of a button. There will be a 55-inch, 65-inch and a 77-inch model, all with 4K resolution and powered by Web OS 2.0. The 77-inch model has a flexible screen that can go from flat to curved with a button press. A 98-inch Quad Ultra HD TV was announced with a 7680 x 4320 display, which LG says is four times the resolution of Ultra HD.


Roku

Roku announced that TCL will release 12 new TV model’s with Roku’s software. One of those will be a 4K model. Roku also announced new OEM partnerships with Haier and Insignia.


Lenovo

Lenovo announced their own smartband called the VIBE Band VB10. It has a E Ink screen and can last 7 days (like the Pebble watches).


Lenovo also announced two laptops in their new LaVie Z series. The first is the HZ550, it weighs only 1.72lbs, has a 5th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and Window 8.1. It will retail for $1,299.


The other is the HZ750, which is a full convertible laptop with a 360-degree hinge (like on the Lenovo Yoga series). It weighs only 2.04lbs and has a 5th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and Windows 8.1. It will retail for $1,499. Both the HZ550 and the HZ750 will launch sometime in May 2015.


ASUS

ASUS announced two new smartphones, the first being the Zenfone 2. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Intel Atom Z3580 processor, 4GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, Android 5.0 Lollipop with ASUS’ Zen UI. It will retail for $199 off-contract when it launches in March.


The other phone is the Zenfone Zoom. It has identical specs to the Zenfone 2 but as laser auto-focus and 3x optical zoom added to the 13-megapixel rear camera. It will retail for $399 and launch sometime in Q2 2015.


Samsung

Samsung announced a new lineup of TV called SUHD. They are all powered by Samsung’s own Tizen OS. The TVs will come in a variety of sizes from 48-inches all the way up to 88-inches.


Sony

Sony announced that all upcoming 2015 Bravia TVs will be powered by Google’s Android TV. Also there will be 11 4K in Sony’s Bravia TV lineup by the end of 2015.

Google has introduced a new creation tool for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, called Blocks. The tool helps to make 3D models easier to create.
